Claas - Fruit Focus debut for narrow width NEXOS

On display at Fruit Focus for the first time in the UK will be the new CLAAS NEXOS narrow width and ELIOS tractor ranges that were launched late last year. In addition, CLAAS will also be displaying the unique CAM PILOT row-following steering system.

Narrow width NEXOS
To meet the wide and differing needs of fruit and vineyard growers, the new CLAAS NEXOS range comes with a wide range of equipment options.

The NEXOS is available in four models (210; 220; 230 and 240) and three variants - the VE, VL and F - with minimum overall widths of 1.00 metres, 1.26 metres and 1.46 metres respectively. Each model offers an ideal combination of wheelbase, weight distribution and lift capacity, enabling the NEXOS to lift and pull heavy implements.

The new NEXOS is powered by a TIER 3 compliant 3.2 litre engine and feature internal exhaust gas recirculation, turbo, intercooler (except 210) and a mechanical injection system. Power outputs range from 72hp; 78hp and 88hp, plus a fourth longer wheelbase 101hp model is also available powered by a 4.5 litre engine.

Depending on requirement, there is the option of four different transmissions.
• 12 forward/12 reverse with a mechanical reverser
• 24 forward/24 reverse with a mechanical reverser and splitter
• 24 forward/24 reverse with mechanical reverser and TWINSHIFT powershift
• 24 forward/24 reverse with REVERSHIFT hydraulic reverser and TWINSHIFT powershift

As standard, the NEXOS comes with a two-pump, 59 litres per minute hydraulic system, but a three-pump 85 litres per minute system is also available for more demanding situations. With up to four spool valves, two of which can be controlled using a joystick, it is possible to drive a hydraulic motor whilst operating a control unit and the rear linkage simultaneously.

The cab of the NEXOS offers a high level of comfort. The wide-opening door, the comfortable grab handles and the self-cleaning step provide easy cab access. Thanks to a wide range of seat and steering wheel adjustments, any driver can find the driving position that suits him best. In addition to this, an air-sprung seat, air conditioning and activated charcoal filter are also standard on the NEXOS.

Compact ELIOS
With power outputs of 72hp; 78hp and 88hp, the CLAAS ELIOS range shares the same 3.2 litre engine as the NEXOS, in addition to the option of four different transmission offerings. Also as standard is the two-pump hydraulic system with a flow of 59 l/min, plus the option of a three-pump, 85 l/min system for implements requiring a higher oil flow, such as loaders.

With a cab height of 2.40m and fitted with a more spacious cab than the narrow-width NEXOS, the new ELIOS is ideal not only for both field or yard work, but also for poly tunnels or glass-houses.

The cab offers a high level of comfort with an air-sprung seat and air-conditioning as standard. The rear linkage has a lift capacity of 3.1 tonnes and is controlled using the TCE6 electronic control system.

Unlike many other tractors of this size, the ELIOS comes as standard with a pick-up hitch. The ELIOS is also suitable for use with the CLAAS FL60 range of loaders, which can be ordered for fitting at the factory, so that all the necessary electrical and hydraulic connections are incorporated at assembly.

CAM PILOT row following
In addition to offering a full range of GPS steering systems up to full RTK, CLAAS has also developed the unique CAM PILOT row following camera system.

CAM PILOT uses a camera mounted on the front of the tractor or front-mounted implement to 3-dimensionally scan field structures such as crop rows or soil ridges and then uses these images to automatically steer the tractor to an accuracy of 2-3cm, which is similar to that from RTK.

This makes CAM PILOT ideal for operations such as inter-row cultivating in crops such as strawberries, as it ensures high accuracy without the risk of crop damage, and so helps to ensure maximum outputs can be maintained, but driver fatigue reduced.
