Two new crop protection products for a more fruitful business27-May-2017
New this year from Bayer, soft fruit growers have fungicide Luna Sensation and apple growers have emergency access to insecticide Movento Top. The Bayer horticulture team will be on stand 8 to discuss how best to use them and talk about potential uses in more crops.
Launched this March, Luna Sensation sets the new standard for powdery mildew and Botrytis management in protected strawberries. It is a co-formulation of new generation SDHI active fluopyram and the strobilurin trifloxystrobin providing built-in resistance management and a one-day harvest interval. Already proven in Benelux and France, Bayer advise use in integrated disease control programmes with their fungicide Teldor (fenhexamid) and biological Serenade ASO (Bacillus subtilis QST 713) .
Since its launch in 2009 Movento – the 150 g/L OD formulation of spirotetramat – has transformed sucking pest control in vegetable crops, with its unique two-way systemicity and mode of action inhibiting lipid biosynthesis. For the first time this year spirotetramat has been made available to apple growers by an emergency 120-day authorisation for Movento Top – the 100 g/L SC formulation – for control of woolly apple aphid.
Movento Top is widely used in Europe on fruit crops but does not yet have UK authorisation. Bayer anticipates this will be gained for the 2017 season with a product label covering the full range of aphid and other sucking pests. For top fruit this should cover mussel scale, pear sucker, leaf curling midge and various mites and on strawberries it should include glasshouse whitefly, thrips and various mites.
